Flava in Ya Ear
Faced with massive city budget cuts to social services, the constant deluge of negative media coverage of inner city youth, and an unresponsive, dictatorial mayor, a group of East Harlem High school students decided to make their own voices and opinions heard. After forming their own group, the Community Voices League (CVL), these Park East High School students got to work on their first project: making a video about the budget cuts to the Board of Eduction. In addition to providing a description and analysis of Mayor Guiliani¹s and Governor Pataki’s cuts, “Flava in Ya Ear” documents the formation of the CVL.
