Military Myths
This production was created in collaboration with ROOTS with music from the AWOL CD. Young people, especially inner-city youth, are inundated with military advertisements and recruiters coming into schools and communities offering sign up-bonuses, money for education & job training. Widely used by activists and educators as a counter-recruitment tool, “Military Myths” takes a critical look at the military’s promises. It considers how media representations of war and military life compare to the reality of war as told by veterans who have actually been there. In addition, interviews with activists and students are presented along with statistics from the Veterans Administration, CCCO, SLDN, and recent Pentagon studies that lay clear the myths of military life.
