  • Mumia Abu-Jamal: Giving a Face to the Death Penalty

Who is Mumia Abu-Jamal and why has he been sentenced to death in the state of Pennsylvania? This tape looks at the personal history of Mumia Abu-Jamal, from his membership in the Black Panther Party to his career as an award-winning journalist, to his unfair trial and sentencing in the death of a Philadelphia police officer. Interviews with his legal counsel, friends and colleagues expose the criminal ways the prosecution attained his conviction and the concerted efforts on the part of the Fraternal Order of Police, the FBI and the mainstream media to silence this prominent revolutionary journalist. This video raises critical questions about the rights of the accused, the inherent injustice of the U.S. judicial system when trying the poor and people of color, the function of the death penalty in the U.S. and our first amendment right to free speech.
