  • Television Across Borders with Michael Silverman

Unquestionably as pressing a topic now as it was during the Cold War Era; Brown University Professor Michael Silverman discusses how the expansion of visual media has threatened the sovereignty of national cultures. Analyzing the dissemination of American TV commercials in the Soviet Union, Silverman comes to the fascinating and terrifying conclusion that the spaces we occupy are thoroughly being remapped by the machinations of corporate interest. Silverman’s theoretical exposition, adeptly suggests that we may indeed be living in a time in which the electronic image bears more heavily on our conscience than the human body.
